ANNUAL POLAR BEAR DIVE

Who among you has the gumption to take on Lake Travis in January? Who among you doesn't know what "gumption" means and if you had it you might need an inoculation? Gumption means that you have courage, spunk, and guts. Gumption is not regularly required for scuba diving. Unless, you only dive the warm waters of the Caribbean and anything under 80 degrees sends a shiver down your spine. In that case, you might want to bring a spine re-enforcer (an awesome dive buddy) and the proper dive gear for water that is a bit cooler than those Caribbean hot spots.

On New Year's Day, at 11:00 AM, we'll meet at Windy Point Park (the private side on the dirt road) to prepare for our first dive of the new year. At its current 58 degree temperature, this dive is accessible to hardy soles in wet suits and dry suits alike. Though, it might cool off a bit more in the next few days. We'll have warm fluid to warm up your insides (hot chocolate, apple cider, etc.). As well as warm water to pour down your wet suits (you'll love this).

There is no dive club fee for this event (though there is an entry fee to Windy Point Park). We suggest you bring plenty of towels, robes, slippers, sweats and such to get yourself nice and warm quickly after the dives.

This promises to be a lot of fun and we're looking forward to seeing you there!

Important!

Windy Point is still suffering the effects from the flooding in 2018. So a couple of details about the event.
  • Bring your per person $8 fee in cash. Due to power and Internet outages, Windy point will be unable to process credit cards.
  • Be on time. Make every attempt to arrive at 11:00 AM. No one will be admitted after 11:30 AM. Since Windy Point is open just for us on this holiday, we don't want to keep the staff onsite any longer than necessary. Thanks!

Club Fees: ( none) Dive Club Members
( none) Non-Members
Other Known Fees: $8 Windy Point Park Entry Fee
